Safety Tips
Stash before you dash
Don't leave valuables in your vehicle in full view of passers-by.
If you need to leave your belongings in your vehicle, be vigilant when putting them in your cubby-hole or boot.
Hold tight, out of sight
Preferably, lock valuable items in the boot before you start your trip.
Don't flash your jewellery, especially gold chains and watches, to avoid jewellery snatching.
Hold your handbag tightly and ensure it is zipped up or closed.
Lock & check before your trek
Don't fall prey to remote jamming - a technique used to interfere with your vehicle's locking system.
Always lock your vehicle's doors and manually check them before you walk away.
Stay vigilant when approaching and leaving your vehicle.
No permit needed
You DON'T NEED a permit to walk in Sandton Central.
If you are asked to buy a permit, you are being scammed. Report it immediately.
Be wise, stay safe
Don't hand over your bank card or punch in your PIN into any handheld keypad (like a calculator) or building entrance keypad - it's a scam!
If you need to draw money, ensure that no one can see your PIN.
Don't let a stranger lead or accompany you to an ATM for any reason.
Don't allow anyone to distract you at the ATM.
Watched over by 240 cameras
In 2019, Sandton Central partnered with Vumacam to build a high-tech, integrated security network. 240 CCTV cameras are active across the precinct, providing comprehensive coverage around the clock.
The Vumacam surveillance network features AI-powered license plate recognition across the district. A Night Guard tactical response unit is linked directly to the camera monitoring team.

The Men in Red
Sandton Central's Safety Ambassadors
Sandton Central's 20 safety ambassadors - affectionately known as the "Men in Red" - are the front line of the improvement district. Deployed at high-traffic pedestrian areas, they set the example that Sandton Central is a managed, safe public space. Backed up by 2 tactical vehicles, the cleaning team of 20 works daily from 06h00 to 17h00 focusing on crime prevention, cleaning, maintenance, and landscaping - seven days a week.
