Update from MMC Nico de Jager regarding more leaks detected on the main line
30 November 2017

The latest from the MMC of Environment and Infrastructure Services, Nico de Jager, is that Joburg Water have detected two more leaks on the Sandton main line at Limbro Park.

The mainline will only be repaired once all reservoirs are 100% full. Leaks are as a result of a landfill that developed over the main line. The leaks is attributed to the erosion caused by the landfill and it is not due to the pipe caving in as reported.

Pikitup and Joburg Water have started the excavation and the removal of the landfill, so that they can see the impact of the leak to prepare for the repair.
Residents and Businesses will be notified in advance to minimise and lessen the down time. We do not have a date yet as to when the planned water shutdown will be.
