Sandton Central’s Mushroom Park is the place to be and be seen
25 April 2019

Beautiful Mushroom Park is now the venue of the monthly Sandton Market @ The Park and plays host to Truffles on the Park restaurant and bar hot spot.

Exciting new attractions are waiting to delight you at Mushroom Park in Sandton Central while you connect with nature, unwind, and socialise among its lush green lawns under shady trees.

An extraordinary green hideaway in the heart of the Sandton Central business district, Mushroom Farm Park’s name echoes its history. According to The Heritage Portal, where the park stands today was a thriving mushroom farm and cannery which operated successfully during the 1950s and 1960s. It was named after the small stream on the property, known as ‘Silver Stream’.

Today the park boasts a fully equipped playground for the kids, a duck pond, amphitheatre, rolling landscaped lawns and an outdoor gym. Popular with families for weekend picnics, dog walkers are also welcome to this park provided their fur friends are on a leash, and the neatly paved walkways are perfect for strollers or joggers. There are also tables, benches and clean public toilets available.

Mushroom Farm Park is also now more full of life than ever before. Sandton Market @ The Park has become a regular attraction at the park, with the next one taking place on Saturday 13 April. Upcoming dates are 4 May, 3 August, 7 September, 12 October, 2 November and 7 December. The lifestyle market offers something for everyone and fun for the entire family from 10am until 6pm. Expect to enjoy foods, drinks, arts and crafts, plenty of entertainment and a designated kid’s corner. Entrance is R10 per person. For more info visit https://www.facebook.com/sandtonmarket.za/.

Then there’s Truffles on the Park, a delightful family bistro and botanical bar, serving world cuisine with an African flavour in its beautiful Mushroom Farm Park setting. Its name is inspired by its location, with truffles being elusive underground mushrooms highly prized in many cuisines around the world. Inspired by its tranquil park surroundings, the bistro embodies a love affair with botanics in its food and drinks menu and its décor. From starters to sweets and everything between, including artisan shareables and signature mains, the bistro and bar also serve up botanical cocktails, artisanal ice teas and many delicious thirst quenchers. Elaine Jack, City Improvement District Manager of the Sandton Central Management District (SCMD), says: “Sandton Central is best known as South Africa’s commercial capital, but it also connects this thriving city to the great outdoors with three wonderful parks. Like leading cities globally, Sandton Central understand the crucial role that green lungs play in well-designed urban fabric that offers a full experience for the people who use it.
