New visitor services launch at South Africa’s one-stop tourism hotspot – Sandton Central
11 October 2018
Sandton Central is one of South Africa’s top-visited tourist destinations and, to ensure visitors enjoy a warm and friendly welcome and a great visit, it has launched two new tourism services.
It now has a new Joburg Tourism Visitor Information Centre and has introduced six Sandton Central Tourism Ambassadors in some of the most visited places within this popular destination.
The new Visitor Information Centre is ideally located at Nelson Mandela Square, a strategic point of arrival for most visitors to Joburg. Besides the Sandton Gautrain Station and the great shopping on offer, Sandton’s Nelson Mandela statue is a major drawcard, attracting millions of visitors each year.
The new Sandton Central Visitor Information Centre, is one of three such go-to sources of information about tourism in the vibrant city of Johannesburg. It is open weekdays from 8am to 5pm.
The Sandton Central Tourism Ambassadors will be available on weekdays from 9.30am to 5.30pm at the Sandton Gautrain Station, Nelson Mandela Square, and the Berman Contemporary Art Gallery at 11 Alice Lane. They will assist visitors with the information they need, while keeping an eye on safety, cleanliness and maintenance in their areas.
The ambassadors will also be a vital link between tourists, Joburg Tourism and Sandton Central, by providing feedback on tourists’ needs that will help to improve tourism services in the city.
Elaine Jack, City Improvement District (CID) Manager of Sandton Central Management District, says, “Johannesburg and Sandton Central specifically are well-established tourist destinations for local and international visitors who come for both business and leisure. Tourism is a key image-builder, and our new services support an exceptional experience of our city. We want people to enjoy their visit and be inspired to return. Tourism is good for economic growth, investor confidence and job creation.”
Sandton Central is the most important business and financial node in South Africa, and plausibly sub-Saharan Africa. It is home to many of the country’s largest corporates, the world’s top multinationals, the JSE and the Sandton City mega-mall. Sandton Central is also a major hospitality and conferencing hub. It is a leading world-class city and a cosmopolitan centre of trade, ideas and lifestyle.
Besides its new dedicated tourism services, Sandton Central creates a safe, clean and well-managed environment for locals and visitors alike. Its team of 56 public safety ambassadors, five patrol cars and 27 cleaning staff operate 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Sandton Central’s easily identifiable and friendly public safety ambassadors, or ‘Men in Red’ as they are affectionately known, are on the frontline of its safety, cleanliness, maintenance and landscaping programme.
