Sandton Central: The sky’s the limit

Sandton Central: The sky’s the limit

So, we’re standing in the new year, looking back and moving forward. Do you think of 2019 as being an exciting, jam-packed year, or was it just another year that flew by without much excitement? What will this year hold, and will it be full of adventure? Who knows, but you can make this next chapter the best one.

If you don’t know where even to start, it’s okay, we’ve set out some adventures for you based in Sandton Central. Choose one and make it a priority to start, enjoy and complete it before 2021 creeps upon us.

Lifestyle
Ah, our first ‘fix’ for every new year. We’re not diving into a lot of health advice here, but maybe it’s time to switch the conventional gym for something more adrenaline-pumping like boxercise. Yes, boxing! It’s the perfect exercise to keep fit and to learn a new skill. A skill that might come in handy someday, who knows.

Durandt’s Boxing & Fitness Gym is the perfect way to learn boxing as a form of exercise to the public. They offer one on one, two on one, and three on one training sessions with a professional boxer. They also provide exclusive ladies’ courses. If this might not be your idea of an adventure, let’s move to the next option you’ll surely love.

Eat & Drink
All of us get stuck with choosing the same restaurant and ordering the same meal when we eat out. Change things up a bit by exploring different restaurants and different menus. Try something that you’ve never eaten before or something you had last eaten when you were a kid. Endeavour the rodeo drive sandwich at  tasha’s at The Marc. It’s so delicious (to give you an idea, the ingredients are mustard mayo chicken, avo, bacon strips and lettuce, on rye or seeded bread…hmmm). Have you ever had a sundowner and cigar in the heart of Sandton? If not, you should make your way to Cocoon and experience this sleek, sophisticated and sexy lounge. Choices are endless, and this adventure could keep you busy the whole year. Moving on to the next option…

Stay
We know that business trips usually ‘decide’ where you should stay but owe it to yourself to stay at a hotel different from the ones you’re used to. Valentine’s Day is coming up, and maybe there’s a special someone you’d like to treat? The Maslow is near the Gautrain station, Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square, which makes it a perfect date. Make it a weekend getaway (Valentine’s Day is on a Friday this year). With infinite activities, your creativity can spark again. If you’re more of an outdoor person, read on.

Outdoor
If fancy restaurants make you somewhat uncomfortable and you’re more of an easy-going, laid-back person, why not try a picnic instead? This is not just for couples looking for a romantic breakaway, but can also be enjoyed between friends, family and colleagues. Hyundai Mushroom Farm Park is a lovely green hideaway from the busy city. The perfect spot. Don’t worry about having to fill up the picnic basket yourself. You can make use of Dial-A-Picnic (they do everything for you, tell them what you need, and it’s sorted). A great way to round of the picnic experience could be hot-air ballooning, available at the park entrance, where you can enjoy panoramic views across Sandton. If this is too serene for you, maybe arts and culture get you moved?

Arts & Culture
Throughout the year there are different shows performed at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square. This is an excellent way to enjoy an evening out instead of just going to the movies. You can watch productions live, way better! There are two shows to look out for this month – Evil and Loving You. Evil is the chilling account of the teenage years of Erik Ponti, a victim of bullying. It raises questions on how we cope with when confronted with extreme situations. Loving You, on the other hand, is an award-winning cast for a night of songs from your favourite musicals and stories about the stages of love.
