Sandton Central is alive with fun, festivities, entertainment and relaxation for everyone over the upcoming cluster of public holidays and long weekends.

The leading hotspot for hospitality, shopping and leisure has a packed programme of attractions over the next couple of weeks

Elaine Jack, City Improvement District (CID) Manager of Sandton Central Management District (SCMD) which is South Africa’s most cosmopolitan neighbourhood, also notes that all these events and attractions are in a safe, clean, well-managed urban environment.

“There is so much more to Sandton Central than being South Africa’s financial capital. It also a vibrant hot spot with plenty to do and see for the entire family, including arts, culture, entertainment and sports. Visiting Sandton Central should be high on everyone’s must-do list,” says Jack.

Sandton Central’s includes must-visit icons Sandton City, Nelson Mandela Square, Michelangelo Towers Mall, Legacy Corner and 24 Central, among other exciting options. Now, there’s a new retail section in Abland’s Alice Lane development set around its open public piazza area. It includes florist and botanical inspired gift store Frond and Filigree, weFix Repair Specialists, healthy fast food offering Krunch, and soon-to-open stores Seattle Coffee, Wishbone Bistro and The Grillhouse.

Sandton Central boasts country’s most desired shopping experience at Sandton City, and it is all a-hop with fun Easter attractions and great prizes. It is also a great outing on any day, with its regular activities, movies, restaurants, services and, of course, shopping.

A big highlight for little ones is The Gruffalo at Auto & General Theatre on the Square, which runs until May 7. This adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s popular modern classic book series for young people is a West End smash hit combines songs, laughter and storytelling theatre with a wonderfully catchy score and original music and lyrics. The South African production is true to the original, with uniquely local charm, energy and charisma.

Hard Rock Café at Nelson Mandela Square is offering cracking entertainment. Hop on over to Hard Rock Cafe Johannesburg for Easter lunch with the Easter Bunny on Easter Sunday, with a fun-tastic afternoon planned for little Roxtars. Then, on Saturday night, 22 April, there’ll be live music with The Sextons, Jerry and The Bandits & Richard Barnard Music.

Sandton Central also has a stellar line-up of top hotels to enjoy a longer stay right in the heart of everything that’s happening. Many of them, such as the Protea Balalaika Hotel, The Hilton, and The Maslow, offering special packages and lunches to enjoy over Easter and the upcoming public holidays.

Bidding farewell to Summer, The Sands is hosting the Corona Sunset Social with five bars, two dance floors and an all-night party to remember powered by European party gurus Papaya productions.

Sandton Convention Centre is all pumped up to host The Arnold Sports Festival, the annual multisport event celebrating numerous sporting codes. It is named after the bodybuilding, film star and US politician, Arnold Schwarzenegger. This international event is a three-day affair and this year takes place from Friday, 5 May to Sunday, 7 May.

May also brings two new productions to the Auto & General Theatre on the Square. From the May 9 to 14, audiences can enjoy the engaging Visage – Revealing the Secrets of the Mind performed by mentalist and memory expert Michael Abrahamson. Then, from May 15 to June 6, it will present the South African comedy of errors, Ask Walter.
