Yes, it’s only August, and we can already feel the tension of 2021 – if not on our shoulders or in our backs, then definitely emotional! Who else can do with a proper vacation?! Everyone, indeed!
By this time, under normal circumstances, many people would’ve taken a mid-year break and feel re-energised for the remaining months, but with Covid-19, travel has been restricted, and we’ve been through our fair share of lockdown levels…
However, there is Relaxation Day on Sunday, 15 August 2021. ‘What, every Sunday is relaxation day’, you might add. You’re not wrong, but how many people really do relax on Sundays because our weekends are just so short that whatever we didn’t do on Saturday need to be completed before Monday sneaks upon us.
Need some tips for relaxation? We’ll show you here.
Slow Down… Breath and Relax!
Have you been stressed lately? We guess everyone has. More and more people become familiar with it, especially with the many challenges life poses nowadays – the big ‘C’, long working hours, children to look after, not to mention everything else.
To relax is essential too – it gives us a chance to unwind and take things easy. Whether you enjoy a quiet morning watching TV from the couch, preparing your garden for spring, sleeping the whole day, or galavanting and spending some hard-earned money on things you like – do it!
You Need It, Everyone Does.
Yes, there are responsibilities, but the main one is you – your health and wellbeing. Forget about work, family, financial and other problems for a moment and take ten to recuperate not to burn out. It probably sounds easier said than done… but it’s for you to decide.
Here are a couple of tips for relaxation:
- Get a plant: Plants increase oxygen and clear toxins and could improve your overall wellbeing. It reduces your heart rate, making you breathe easier.
- Avoid screen: …before bedtime. Leave the phone and laptop at night; it doesn’t only meddle with your worries, but with your sleep patterns too.
- Eat bananas: Bounce back with bananas’ potassium which helps regulate your blood pressure.
- Citrus-indulgence: According to studies, vitamin C helps to alleviate the physical and psychological effects of stress.
- Hand massages: Spending all day typing causing strain on your fingers? Experience the relaxation benefits of a quick hand massage combined with lavender-scented lotion.
- What makes you laugh? Find funny videos online which will help increase endorphins released by your brain, making you feel relaxed.
- Grab a choccie: Studies show that even just 40 grams of dark chocolate a day can help you destress… Already have a bar of chocolate in mind? Great!
- Take a mental break: Sit back, close your eyes and imagine seeing yourself at a restaurant or your favourite fashion store in Sandton Central. It might sound cheesy, but a few minutes of disengaging engagement will rejuvenate you. Then, make it a reality and head over to your preferred happy place today!
There are endless options for relaxation; choose one that works for you even if you have to do it on your own, which would probably be the best… Take care, Sandton, and learn to relax!
