Fashion Week AW19: Happening in October

At its simplest level, people associate fashion with clothes, and style as some interchangeable variation of the two. However, a quick look beneath the surface reveals the reality – a reality which stands in starks contrast to the shallow, superficial misconception many seem to have.

There are admittedly, some for whom fashion doesn’t play a big role. And that’s fine, really. On the other hand, there are plenty for whom it’s not just what you wear or the brand it’s from. To many, fashion is a means of expression. It’s a lifestyle. It’s an art form. It’s an entire way of being.

Everyone knows we South African’s are a vibrant, creative and sometimes ingenious bunch. That’s why we turned to fashion, style and all things visually appealing. Looking at the way this culture has evolved, it’s easy to be inspired. SA has a local flavour unlike any other, a vibrant mix of colours, drawing influence from our past, our present, our heritage and more. Our designers are some of the most passionate, creative and talented around – and often the biggest challenge lies in just selecting your favourite ONE.

This October is Fashion Week AW19. If you aren’t in the know by now, we’re here to educate you. SAFW A/W 2019 is a showcase of the best creations, designers and all things stylish from SA’s hottest local talents. 2019 marks the 22nd anniversary of the ever-growing event – close to a quarter century of (seemingly) effortless brilliance.

However, there’s more to the event than just fancy clothes and expression of self. SAFW is as much about opportunity, hunger, dedication and desire as anything else. The event embodies our countries spirit more than most. There are countless rag to riches success stories, negativity and sometimes abuse to prevail and pursue their passion. Becoming a fashion designer is difficult for some. Many come from homes where the pursuit of a concrete, safer option is encouraged, where creativity is seen as a risk, and breaking into a difficult industry considered impossible. Yet, still, there are those who prevail. Those who make their dreams a reality. And every year there are those who are about to break it and go big.

We at Sandton Central are honoured to be a part of such inspirational stories. We’re privileged to facilitate the realisation of so many dreams. And it’s our greatest pleasure to know that this event lets us showcase the keys to a brighter future – even if only for a single person.

So, what do we expect?
A weeklong platform to showcase fashion, fashion and more fashion. From seasonal must-haves to signature pieces, internationally inspired looks and stylish upcoming trends from across the globe, the event is a must-see for anyone with an appreciation for all things beautiful. If that’s not enough, some of the countries biggest names will be there which means plenty of socialising and brushing shoulders with the coolest people in town. If you understand the power, influence, and significance of fashion in SA culture, this one isn’t even a question.
