Joburg, are you ready for the 33rd Pride Parade and Celebration in Sandton? We celebrate advocacy, activism, and change to drive equality globally and liberate every LGBTQ+ person across Africa to live their most authentic lives! Join us on Saturday, 29 October 2022, as we march the streets, disrupting the status quo through elevating and amplifying Pride from this annual event to an all-inclusive continent-wide community platform.
Johannesburg Pride March
Since 1990, the event is open to anyone who wishes to join and take a stride for Pride. We’re expecting thousands of LGBTQ+ members to unite again this year in self-acceptance and legal right. The event has secured support from Gauteng Province, Sandton City Mall, Sandton Central, Mercedes-Benz, EY, Pride Insure, Flight Centre, BCG and several other prominent corporates in the business district.
A Pride Village will be available next to Sandton City, between Sandton Drive and 5th Street, with secure parking where Pride-goers can enjoy various food and beverages, as well as a street market. The march will be guided through the streets from the Pride Village at 14:00.
Not only will attendees have a fantastic time with the people, food and drink, but they’re adding talented, Proudly South African performers to this year’s festivities too, including MsParty, DJ Skye, Atlanta, King B, DJ Imme and Tamara Dey.
Of course, a celebration without a party is just another boring event… this day will be rounded off by an official Pride after-party. We don’t have the details yet, but we encourage you to keep an eye on all social media for updates.
Yes, it will be safe
Everyone’s safety matters. Hence security, together with clean-up, recycling and medical services, have been arranged for the day. A private security company and 500 community volunteers will assist with security at the event site and as marshals during the march. The Johannesburg Metro Police Department and the South African Police Service will also be present to control and regulate traffic.
Entities bringing all of this to life
An ever-increasing number of diversity-conscious, global entities support Pride of Africa with their Johannesburg Pride passion project. Some media partners that make this event even more colourful are Pride Insure, EY and Mercedes-Benz, Coca-Cola South Africa and eMedia. Let’s give them a hand of applause!
