Fashion: Winter, what\u2019s hot, what\u2019s not.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Brace yourself, winter is coming.<\/p>\n

They say life is short and for many of us it seemed like just another catchphrase.<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t blame you – the internet is filled with motivational quotes and sayings that, more often than not, aren\u2019t really relevant to everyday life. Not this one.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t too long ago we were writing about Black Friday, then December and all the possibilities the holidays brought. Now we look up and it\u2019s already March. Not just that – it\u2019s the end of March. And as much as we\u2019re looking forward to the upcoming public holidays, we secretly fear they\u2019ll just be another blink and you\u2019ll miss it cameo.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why, even though we\u2019re still perspiring from the sweltering Summer sun, we put on our best Ned Stark voice and prepare to face yet another Johannesburg winter.
\nThere\u2019s no burger like a Joburger, but in June, these burgers are truly frozen.<\/p>\n

Many people have an intense dislike of winter and it\u2019s easy to see why. You don\u2019t feel like going out. It\u2019s always grey or rainy (or both). Getting out before work is an absolute NIGHTMARE, and don\u2019t even get us started about stepping out of the shower.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve been there, we feel you.<\/p>\n

But whereas many choose to look at winter and see cloudy skies and frozen fingers, we choose to see possibilities. Call us weird, but we\u2019re looking forward to it. Or, should we say, we\u2019re looking forward to the opportunities that come with it.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s to hot chocolate and nights under warm blankets, cuddling with a loved one. Here\u2019s to being toasty and indulging in rich, steaming comfort food. Here\u2019s to soup and fluffy slippers, warm weekends curled up and, yes, here\u2019s to onesies.<\/p>\n

Most of all, however, here\u2019s to your chance to let your fashion sense truly shine.<\/p>\n

Anyone can look good in summer- all it takes is a quick throw on and you\u2019re good to go. It\u2019s even easier for guys. Jeans, t-shirts and a good sneaker, it\u2019s quite literally 1,2 and 3. Winter, however, is where we separate the style-stars from the pretenders. It\u2019s sort of a rite of passage, a true test of your mettle- if the Spartans were still around, it\u2019s what they\u2019d do to show their worth.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve taken a look at some of the upcoming 2019 fashion trends so you don\u2019t have to. We\u2019re cool like that. Pun intended.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s talk capes:<\/strong>
\nNo, we\u2019re not saying go full Avengers on us. Even Thor struggles to pull that look off, and have you seen him? We\u2019re talking about the perfect accessory to that super sexy coat you\u2019ve been saving for your next winter adventure. Don\u2019t believe us? Everyone from Marc Jacobs to Coco Channel have featured them in their latest collections- and we think they know a thing or two about fashion.<\/p>\n

If you like it, put a belt on it:<\/strong>
\nWomen\u2019s suits were all over autumn and winter runways, but there was an understated yet vital trend to go with them- belted sets. With added layers come, well, added layers. And if you\u2019re not careful, you can look like you\u2019ve really stocked up for the winter. A good way to contrast this heavier look is to quite literally nip it. Everything from oversized jackets to heavy coats and, yes, women\u2019s suit jackets, can look a whole lot classier with a simple leather strap. Go figure.<\/p>\n

Longline coats:<\/strong>
\nEveryone loves a heavy coat- if not for the fact you feel as warm and toasty as a marshmallow on a braai. This winter, why not take it further? Ankle grazing jackets are the chic version of oversized statement pieces. Even Cara Delavigne has been seen rocking them- so do it like the real icons and you\u2019re good to go.<\/p>\n

Patchwork and fleece:<\/strong>
\nRemember your favourite, most cosy blanket? The one you can\u2019t live without and use every day to curl up and hibernate? Turns out it looks pretty cool if you wear it. Keep your eyes peeled for jackets, jerseys, scarves and coats made from unconventional materials. Retro is cool. Blankets are hot. You should try to be somewhere in between.<\/p>\n
