October was transport month and this year, Sandton Central celebrated the month with exciting, new transport developments.<\/p>\n
No one is a fan of traffic and congested lanes. So this new development comes as a breath of fresh air to relief some of the traffic woes experienced in Sandton.<\/p>\n
So now\u2026 welcome the public transport lane, known as the Sandton Public Transport Loop! This public transport loop, worth over R210 million is an innovative system created to improve the transport structure in possibly the busiest city in Gauteng.<\/p>\n

Did you know?<\/strong><\/p>\n The number of commuters who travel to Sandton from different parts of the city such as Diesploot, Alexandra, Soweto and Ivory Park has gone up by 3,4% yearly and it\u2019s likely to continue to increase by more than 4% per annum. This is according to City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Herman Mashaba.<\/p>\n So, to accommodate this growing stream of traffic, the state-of-the-art transport loop will consist of a pedestrian-and-bus-only bridge with seven bus stops and a new Rea Vaya route, which will help about 10 000 commuters enter the Sandton business district.<\/p>\n Furthermore, in sight of the turbulent economic climate in the country, this transport loop will also serve as a critical tool towards the economic growth of the city.\u00a0Partnerships with the Gautrain, Putco, Metrobus and minibus taxis will also be vital in improving the state of the city\u2019s public transport, reduce travelling times and essentially making it more convenient to travel.<\/p>\n So, turn that frown of being stuck in traffic to a smile, because the transport loop will make life much easier!
