After a year like 2020, we all want something to look forward to in the new year, and we\u2019re bringing you the 2021 trends you can expect from lifestyle to food and make-up. Basically, everything as we once knew it, has changed, but what do they say?! Change is as good as a holiday! But we\u2019ll let you decide\u2026<\/p>\n

Lifestyle<\/strong><\/h4>\n

During the lockdown, most South Africans were stuck at home with pyjamas on for days eating comfort and unhealthy foods. We discovered food recipes we weren\u2019t aware of or haven\u2019t tried before, but surely it had us experiencing different lifestyle manners. Some even went so far by producing their own homemade alcohol. We didn\u2019t see friends and family for months (only virtually, which doesn\u2019t count) and with that, we unlearnt how to be socially active. But that\u2019s all about to change, especially if we have no idea what the future holds\u2026for all we know we could enter 2021 with a second Covid-19 wave.<\/p>\n

In the new year, you\u2019ll see people purchasing fashion clothing, online<\/em> but still, to regain their self-confidence. They\u2019ll focus on losing not only holiday but also lockdown weight by attending the gym or joining some contact exercise classes. Eating healthy will become a significant trend, and it won\u2019t surprise us if some people decide to transform to vegans (as plant-based food is currently dominating the food industry). Some people will, after cheering to new beginnings on New Years, reduce their alcohol intake as part of living a healthy lifestyle. You\u2019ll experience more people moving around \u2013 travelling, hiking and engaging in new hobbies such as mountain biking. More people are interacting with others and as soon as their given freedom, slowly but surely their social skills will not only reappear but improve.<\/p>\n

Food<\/strong><\/h4>\n

When it comes to food trends, things move quickly. We will see a lot of past favourites with olive oil making a comeback. Although plant-based foods are enormous and some would love to see meat given up entirely because of climate change, cattle, and other animal populations, it\u2019s not likely to happen.<\/p>\n

There will be a shift towards a more balanced diet with less meat and more fruit and veggies instead. Due to climate change, you can expect to see a move to reduce any foods and ingredients with high carbon footprints, like cheese and meat, and the encouragement is leading to enforcement that we only eat food that is seasonally available and available locally. A greater focus on food like insects, fish, invasive plant species, legumes, grains, pulses, seaweed, and algae, can be expected too.<\/p>\n

The new flavour combination with strong indications is umami and sweet in small measures. An example is cheddar cheese and apple pie. This will make more of an appearance in 2021 and beyond. In 2019, coconut oil made a big hoo-ha with no clear viewpoint of being good or bad. However, next year, we\u2019ll will move back to good old extra-virgin olive oil as is one fat that has a lot of evidence to back up claims it is good for your health.<\/p>\n

Chickpeas are becoming more than just hummus where it is starting to appear here and there as a healthy dip replacement. It\u2019s one of the ingredients that is experimented a lot with, and you can expect to see it more on future menus.<\/p>\n

Make-Up<\/strong><\/h4>\n

When was the last time you\u2019ve had a full face of make-up? Don\u2019t feel bad as more natural faces are the latest trend with subtly perfected skin and relaxed eyeshadow \u2013 effortless make-up. With regards to eyebrows (because we\u2019ve gone through different shapes the last decade), you\u2019re a for away with a strong arch with a few natural-looking strays. A little blush on the apples of your cheeks with fluttery lashes (eyeliner and mascara) will promise a clean and sweet look.<\/p>\n

Of course, you can wear joyful colours on your eyes such as pinks, yellows, blues, and greens with flushed, natural lips. We\u2019ll see an emphasis on nude shades of lip balms, but the classic red lipstick will never go out of style.<\/p>\n
