Self-improvement 101: kick start your 2019
New year. New you! Get ready to make resolutions you can keep to. Make it a special year in 2019 by getting into shape and getting your mind into the game. Here are some tips of what you can do in Sandton Central over December and January to put yourself into ‘self-actualisation’.
Join the gym!
Whatever your flavour of exercise is, there’s plenty of places to get yourself fit at in Sandton Central. For instance, the man who will see the first space tourism industry, Richard Branson, also created an out-of-this-world experience for gyming. Virgin Active, at the Discovery Building, is the perfect place to build those muscles. Or get in cardio at their treadmills or exercise bikes. Practice for the Tour de France! (Just not in the way that Lance ‘I’m so Dope’ Armstrong did it.)
They also have plenty of classes for you to do. Like Barre180. Expect lots of stretching! It’s perfect for getting your body into the perfect condition. And there are elements of yoga. Yoga is far more than just about stretching – it is about the mind and soul as well. Connect to your inner self. Become your own guru.
There’s also a Planet Fitness, which you’ll on corner of Daisy and Rivonia Road. They have similar facilities. Including a sauna to sweat the small stuff! You’ll come out feeling cleansed. Just remember to hit the showers afterwards.
Mind through matter.
Standing opposite the statue of our beloved Madiba is the venerable Sandton Library. Five floors of books upon books. And books are knowledge. Knowledge is the power to change your life. They have everything from biographies, history, astrology, and biology to sci-fi, adventure, thrillers, and romances. Including children’s books. Nothing opens the mind better than learning. It is what Madiba wanted most for the children of the country, but it matters a lot for adults too.
In this age of social media, most of the reading we do is other people’s statuses. Well, opening a good book and having wisdom imparted on you is one of life’s most rewarding exercises.
You’ll find you’ll read so much more when you’re not on a budget and can read anything you want for free (aside from a small membership fee).
The greatest minds of any age honed their brains through reading and learning. You can do that too.
