Sandton Central is packed with great things to do this festive season
05 December 2019
School is out. Holidays are here. If you want a great day out and are wondering what to do during the festive season, look no further than Sandton Central.
South Africa’s leading hotspot for shopping, dining, hospitality and entertainment, Sandton Central, is once again packed full of festivities, fun and relaxation this holiday season.
Elaine Jack, City Improvement District Manager of Sandton Central Management District (SCMD) – South Africa’s centre of the latest trends, style and entertainment, and its cosmopolitan financial – says, “Come along to Sandton Central for the warmest of welcomes this December, and stay for the most exciting entertainment and events on the season’s calendar. Visiting Sandton Central should arguably be on everyone’s wish list this December.”
This summer, Sandton Central again offers a mind-blowing diversity of leisure and retail experiences throughout the day and late into the night in a safe, clean, well-managed urban environment.
Sandton Central is home to Sandton City with its fantastic programme of holiday activities, shows, services and, of course, shopping that are always a highlight of the season. For the first time this year it is hosting the annual Christmas Village, the perfect place for festive family fun. The European-style festive market runs from 4 to 9 December between 4pm and 10pm offering a charming array of festive shopping, craft food, entertainment and movies under the stars, all sparkling with lights and tinsel.
Then, from 11 December, The Nutcracker Winter Circus Parade of the Animals at Sandton City kicks off until 5 January 2020. The wonderfully whimsical theatrical adventure, starring puppets and performers extraordinaire, promises to be bigger and better with four daily performances every day, excluding Christmas Day, Day of Goodwill and New Year’s Day. Tickets are available from www.ticketpros.co.za and also at the door for a R30 fee, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Sandton SPCA.
Nelson Mandela Square will present the unmissable Carols on the Square with Richard Cock and the Symphony Choir of Johannesburg on Sunday, 22 December from 5pm to 6.30pm.
Many of the country’s leading hotels and restaurants can be found in Sandton Central, making it the perfect place for year-end celebrations, long lunches with friends, and outings with the family, or even a longer stay right in the heart of everything that’s happening. There’s a wide range of special events and offers for Christmas and New Year. You can find them on Sandton Central’s official list of events, happenings and celebrations at https://sandtoncentral.co.za/events.
The perfect time for summer picnics and a fun day in the park on lush green lawns sheltered beneath the shady trees, Sandton Central also has three enjoyable parks that connect this thriving city to nature – Innesfree Park, Mushroom Park and Sandton Central Park.
Jack says: “Sandton Central is always appealing, but even more so at this time of year. Its energy and attractions draw people from around the province, the country and further afield, and its gatherings and celebrations on long summer days and warm starry nights make it uniquely inviting. We wish everyone a joyous, safe and fabulous holiday season, and look forward to even more great things in Sandton Central in 2020.”
