08 December 2021

Be prepared to ruffle your [pink flamingo] tail feathers this festive season at tashas Nelson Mandela Square. Nestled in the heart of Sandton, tashas is inviting you to brunch, lunch and celebrate in the shadow of the iconic statue of South Africa’s former President Nelson Mandela.

tashas Nelson Mandela Square brings the notion of African Glamour is brought to life. The space is instantly recognisable for its colourful pink backdrop, scalloped walls and glamorous, brass tinged interior, the palette is inspired by the iconic styles and colours prevalent in Miami in the ’70s.

Combining elegance and sophistication with a playful personality, evident by way of bronze meerkats and monkeys throughout, tashas Flamingo Room is a testament to Africa’s refined side.

Melissa Broodryk, co-owner of the tashas Nelson Mandela Square store, has worked with founder of Tashas Group, Natasha Sideris for 16 years. “Our store serves hundreds of customers a day – whether they’re dressing up and sipping bubbles for brunch, or dressing down for a relaxed breakfast or lunch, we’ve really become to go-to location for friends, family and colleagues.”

Having started out as a waitress at Nino’s in Bedfordview, Melissa now co-owns two tashas stores – Nelson Mandela Square and the recently-renovated Le Parc, by tashas in Hyde Park Corner. She heads up a team of 75 staff.

“We have an incredible team - they make sure that every dish has the freshest ingredients, they deliver the highest quality service and make sure the environments are beautiful,” Melissa explains.

In fact, the team is so dedicated that many of the team members have been with Melissa since the store opened in December 2015 - Shepard Ncube, Elsie Phetane, Thulani Ndlovu, Phindile Ndlovu, Sammy Munemo and Nkosi Dube are a few of the stores most familiar faces.

Some of the top-selling dishes from the tashas Nelson Mandela Square Classic Menu items include the Lamb Cutlets, Creamy Pesto Pasta and the Salmon Tartare. The Signature Menu brings the flavour of African glamour to life, with Seafood Pasta still being the number one dish off this menu. For the Flamingo Room, it’s always best to order a selection of dishes for everyone to share.

The Flamingo Room, a separate space within the store, is also ideal for private functions and can be booked separately.
