Opening of Development Planning offices postponed
04 January 2021

A City of Johannesburg Press Statement by the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Development Planning, Cllr Thapelo Amad

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the untimely passing of two officials from Coronavirus-related complications during the festive season.

The officials worked in the Land Use Development Management directorate, and were considered to be committed members of the team.

We are truly saddened to have lost such valuable members of our staff, who served the Department diligently and gallantly. They will be missed by all their colleagues and friends in the City of Johannesburg.

The Department of Development Planning has extended its support to the families of the deceased officials, as well as members of the staff who have been affected by the unexpected passing of their colleagues.

Due to the extent of the effect the loss of the two officials had on members of the staff, the Department has postponed the opening date from Wednesday, 06 January 2021, to Wednesday, 13 January 2021.

This is to allow staff members time to undergo bereavement counselling and give the Department an opportunity to prepare itself to serve residents and the construction industry efficiently.

The Government of Local Unity understands the importance of the services rendered by Development Planning, and appeals to stakeholders to allow them time to prepare accordingly.

All officials are encouraged to continuously adhere to the Covid-19 precautions provided by national government, and are reminded to always wear a mask, maintain social distancing, wash and/or sanitise hands regularly.

Let us all play our part and stay safe, because together, we can and will defeat this pandemic.
