OneCart launches on-demand delivery with Makro
02 July 2020
OneCart, SA’s premier on-demand grocery delivery service, has partnered with Makro and Makro Liquor for same-day delivery in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.
OneCart offers personalised shopping from multiple stores with two-hour delivery, one delivery fee and a single transaction. From 1 June, you can now add Makro groceries - food, beverages, and other household goods - to your OneCart basket and enjoy Makro’s competitive in-store prices.
“We are delighted to partner with leading retailer Makro and together bring more variety and value right to the doorsteps of OneCart users along with the ultimate convenience and flexibility of same-day delivery. Our customers are the motivation for everything we do, and we are thrilled to be making their lives easier with hassle-free, fast, and personalised shopping delivery from Makro,” says OneCart CEO Lynton Peters.
OneCart partners with malls and retailers, big and small, for convenient and flexible same-day grocery deliveries. Its retailer partners include Woolworths, Pick n Pay and Pick n Pay Liquor, Food Lovers’ Market, Dis-Chem, Clicks, Jacksons., and now, of course, Makro.
Besides helping people from across South Africa easily shop all their favourite brands in one place, OneCart solves problems for retailers without competing with them, because OneCart shops from the shelves of brick-and-mortar stores. It provides an online shopping platform for retailers that don’t have their own and works alongside retailers that already have an e-commerce offering, complementing their omnichannel ecosystem.
Its drive to provide world-class service excellence for its online and app users has set OneCart on an impressive growth course.
Co-founded in 2016 by Peters and COO Ariel Navarro, OneCart officially launched in early 2018 having secured seed capital of R16mil. The company has consistently proven its ability to scale, with 400% growth in its first year and 300% growth in 2019.
However, it has seen a whopping 500% increase in orders since South Africa’s national COVID-19 lockdown came into effect from 26 March 2020.
Responding to South Africans’ increased demand for grocery delivery in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, OneCart leveraged its partnerships to employ more than 450 new team members, expand its delivery service into new areas including Pretoria North and Joburg South, and introduce 10 more collection points for improved service delivery.
“Fortunately, we were in a great position to scale up quickly going into the lockdown with OneCart having recently successfully raised Series-A capital with a listed entity, and we remain in discussions with potential new backers and partners,” confirms Peters.
OneCart displayed amazing agility to deliver such a massive spike in orders, but scaling at this speed isn’t easy.
“We’ve been working tirelessly to provide our customers with what they need and continue to improve our service, grow our team and upskill our staff. By quickly identifying the greatest user needs, we hired and on-boarded new team members, and increased our support capacity. OneCart customers have high standards and, even in the toughest of circumstances, we aim to exceed their expectations,” says Navarro.
This is a tremendous task considering OneCart’s personal shoppers are trained to handpick the best products from the shelves of partner shops within delivery areas, and it is obsessed with service and delivery that is always on time. However, there is no doubt that its unwavering commitment to customer excellence has earned OneCart a growing user-base, increasing order numbers, and more partnerships with leading retailers, like Makro.
In another exciting development, in mid-May 2020 Nedbank launched its ‘super-app’, Avo, and announced that it has partnered with OneCart to enable Avo-users to get their groceries from leading retailers in one delivery. OneCart is now fully integrated into Nedbank’s payment platform.
