ISO14001 is an international standard that provides a framework to companies for an effective Environmental Management System (EMS). Many businesses already do most of what is required in an EMS without realising it.

Mediclinic Morningside is one of 42 ISO14001 certified hospitals in the Mediclinic Southern Africa group and has adopted a Safety, Health and Environmental Policy which supports our commitment to protecting the environment, conserving our natural resources and ensuring the health and safety of our employees and clients by employing sound health, safety and environmental practices in all our business activities.

We use the EMS as a tool to establish environmental targets and objectives, implement strategies to mitigate environmental risks and utilise opportunities, adhere to relevant legislative and other compliance obligations, implement projects, create awareness, ensure competence, monitor and measure environmental aspects, and take action where gaps in the system are identified.

Risk management and emergency preparedness forms an integral part of the EMS and MediclinicMorningside has identified various issues which could affect us all as a business community. These include but are not limited to:

· Manufacturing industries / chemical disasters
· Disruption of municipal services
· Criminal actions
· Events (sporting, social etc.)
