Major redevelopment in Sandton – what to expect

The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) will be launching a project to install Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) stations in Sandton this month, which will impact traffic and thoroughfare on key routes in the city.

The stations will be built between Sandton Drive and Katherine Street, the group said, with the project commencing in October.

The JDA said that the development will involve the relocation of existing services, widening roadworks and installing a median station building when the roadworks have been advanced.

Handover to the main contractor will initially focus on relocation of services in the road median and sidewalks, including water, electrical, gas lines and fibre optic cables. The initial part of the project includes road widening in sections of the affected road for five to six months.
