City set to commemorate 3rd Annual White Cane Safety Day

The Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Health and Social Development, Cllr Mpho Phalatse will tomorrow, Tuesday, 15 October 2019, commemorate the 3rd Annual White Cane Safety Day.

The national White Cane Safety Day is observed annually on 15th of October, where abilities of the blind and partially blind are recognized.

For blind people, the white cane is an essential tool that provides the ability to achieve a full and independent life. It offers the blind to move freely and safely from place to place.

The event, in partnership with the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) and Rea Vaya, will also highlight access to transport for the blind.

The programme for the day is set to start at 09h00 with a march from Blind SA building in Mayfair into Church Street, where messages of support and entertainment will follow.
