Balalaika's Bull Run Restaurant celebrates its 21st, Joburg style

Starting on 25 October, 2021 the Bull Run Restaurant at the Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Balalaika Sandton is officially becoming “an adult”, as it turns 21. Guests are invited to join the restaurant as it celebrates with special promotions and giveaways from 25-30 October.


Patrons of the effortlessly elegant Bull Run are invited to enjoy a free glass of wine with every meal ordered on Monday, 25 October, following which, they will be invited to pop a balloon for a chance to qualify for a prize.


On Tuesday, 26 October, a free beer is included with every meal, with another opportunity for guests to pop a balloon. On Wednesday the 27th , a more festive atmosphere kicks into gear, with free shots – some of which may be consumed “hands-free”. On Thursday, 28 October, Bull Run staff will be kitted out in gold, to usher in anyone brave enough to ride a mechanical bull, with big prizes as an added incentive. More of the same follows on Friday, 29 October, with free Champagne at the door. And as the weekend arrives, guests are invited to cool down with a free beer or glass of wine with every meal ordered.


The Bull Run first opened its doors on 28 October 2000, and has since become a favourite among South Africans and visitors from around the world. The restaurant is known for its classic New York style steakhouse feel and for serving some of the best steaks in the world. Since its inception, quality meat has been an integral part of the Bull Run’s identity. Every ounce of meat that is served is “patiently matured and given the respect it deserves, with every meal prepared perfectly to each customers ’exacting desires”.


The Bull Run is situated in Sandton’s ever-growing and bustling financial district at the base of the Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Balalaika Sandton. The restaurant takes its name from the financial term “Bull Run”, referring to a period when prices rise on the financial markets and any investment is a winning one.


21 years after it burst onto Johannesburg’s bustling food scene, the Bull Run’s story continues, in honour of good food, great steaks, welcomed travellers and the growth and success of a market in one of the most beautiful and diverse cities in the world.
